Marc,

The company I work for installs the baggage handling systems at the Vancouver airport, I design them.
A number of times, I have tried to get some nice shots in there, but I find it hard to come up with nice shots of the industrial environment (find an example attached). Would you know anyone who would be interested in a backstage tour of the airport in exchange for some photographic advice & joint shooting?

Do you have any control over the lighting? Can you bring in small strobes? Given the shot this'd be tough. All that metal will blast hot returns. I think you're onto something with the motion blurring. Have you tried tonemapping a RAW file? That can make for some interesting looks.
